The Doc In The Box

I’m glad to see these retail-ish medical clinics, which are very popular in Austin, are proliferating. But I’m surprised to see there’s only 1,200 plus across the country.

They are pretty cheap and they really do give the lie to the supposed need for Obamacare. Even the illegal hoards the Dems want to insure (so their numbers keep growing and they keep voting Dem) can afford a doc in the box.

  1. We’ve had a few of these for many years, but the big boom seems to be in supermarket-based clinics, which around here are run by one of the major hospitals.

Odd choice of location. Not sure I’d want to shop for food in the same place as sick people waiting to be seen. Though I suppose the clinic is in a separate but adjoining building. I’d hope.

  3. In one store I frequent, it’s at the very front, right by the pharmacy entrance, partially concealed by the customer-service desk. Since most people don’t use the pharmacy entrance unless they’re actually going just to the pharmacy – no carts over there – it seems unlikely that you’d lose your lunch over the sight of a patient.

I’d be more concerned about contracting something contagious than being nauseated. But, all around, it’s not a very appetizing idea in a place that wants the customer, ideally, to have an appetite.

Our HEB has the pharmacy in a far corner, set into an alcove. You can get blood drawn, and some vaccines, but it’s not a clinic.
