Catastrophist follies

It’s the disaster the catastrophists missed entirely. They’ve done population bombs—with attendant agricultural, pollution and war issues—to death in fiction and politics (which are closely-related, actually). First their end-of-oil-and-gas baloney was laughed out of real life by fracking. Now declining birth rates are kicking them when they’re down. Serves ‘em right.

Meanwhile, the anti-plastic bag enviros (including our favorite progressive Mrs. Charm) are reaping unintended consequences, from bacteria-caused ER visits to actual deaths. Environmentalism is all about feelings not about facts.

Happens all the time with ill-considered good deeds. Instead of pushing (for instance) for biodegradable plastic bags, the Greens went the easy way.

Indeed. Green-ism is religion, not rationalism.

I’m plagued by a plastic-bag ban (or purchased paper bags) in the city nearby to my place in the country. (Note: price of bags is already included in our food prices.)

In the ‘unintended’ (i.e., too stupid to think things through) consequences category, bio-degradable bags are made from corn, further driving up food prices (in addition to the ethanol fiasco). That is what drove food riots several years ago in Mexico City after the price of tortillas increased 250%.

The Austin City Council is said to be mulling banning plastic grocery bags. Meanwhile the streets are falling apart.
