Texas DPS director Steve McGraw says with the benefit of hindsight, the Uvalde cops made the wrong decision not to interrupt what they thought was a barricaded situation instead of an active shooter one. They also held back a Border Patrol tactical team that quickly arrived and eventually was allowed to engage the shooter and kill him. But only after the 19 children and two teachers had been killed. Makes little sense given that the killer’s firing was going on throughout.

Just like at Columbine and Parkland, Uvalde cops and state troopers waited outside Robb Elementary for nearly an hour while the killing was going on. Milling around. While parents frantically urged them to go in, but they wouldn’t. Some of the parents were arrested. It took a Border Patrol unit (some reports say just one BP officer) to go in and kill the killer. Disgraceful. Utterly shameful.

“Horrible news: Fifteen have died in a shooting at Robb elementary school, according to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who said there are 14 students and one teacher killed. The shooter is dead.”

AND: One commenter at Fox News: “We’ve had guns in our culture for a very long time and never had these issues. About 40 years ago, tons of people in my area in had rifles and shotguns during hunting season. We never had any problems. The problem in this country is moral decay and a serious lack of leadership and common sense, not guns.”
AND+: And, of course, the teachers and staff were forbidden by law from carrying. Easy pickins for Mr. Killer. Way to go!
We may be off to Fredericksburg to a B&B with a pool. Step-daughter has to sign off on it. No telling. We’d go in the middle of the week after Labor Day for three or four nights. We’d hope to spend time talking to each other, including at least one board game evening, but there’d always be shopping, restauranting, clubbing for the kids, and visiting Enchanted Rock about a half hour north.
Sedona would be preferred by all but with Amtrak cancellations and price increases due to fuel and food, it seems too dicey this year. And probably through 2024 as long as Slimy Biden is POTUS. Not to mention the threat of World War III. F-burg is less than two hours away from home, versus most of Texas and all of New Mexico.
