Thunderbirds flyover

Bar and I watched the six-bird formation flyover of Austin live yesterday on my smart phone, since the F-16 jets were too far south of the mini-rancho to see them otherwise.

Really cool. And so is this Aggie pilot’s clip of his in-formation, over-Austin video which we can presume from the unwavering picture wasn’t taken with a smart phone but some rig to let him concentrate on his dangerous formation flying. All that weight, all that power, in such close proximity.

Death by dog

I admit to being a trifle uneasy at Mr. Boy’s acquisition of a golden retriever puppy while still in college at Texas A&M. He and his girlfriend take turns taking care of Olive.

I’m sure they’d be the last to worry about something like this horror story, but maybe they should. It’s the nice thing about a cat, though their claws can infect you as well. Animals as pets are a gamble.

Virus be damned, Big Apple, here we come

Mr. Boy and his lady love, Aggies both, Ubered to the airport before dawn this morning for their Spring Break trip to New York City—epicenter (maybe) of the Corona Virus.

Who cares? They’re young, healthy and exuberant. And they saved up for it. Gonna take an AirBNB in Queens and see the sights, especially art galleries and museums. And probably do a little clubbing. Or a lot. They return on Sunday from their whirlwind, four-day tour.

UPDATE:  They returned early, sobered by the empty streets, and closed museums. Were glad to get home.

Horns win, Ags in trouble

So nice to see (hear, actually, as we don’t have a TV yet at the mini-rancho) the uneven Longhorns beat Tech by a whopping amount (49-24) after a four-game slump.

Now the equally benighted Aggies have to play No. 1 2 LSU. Doubtful they’ll rack up 49 points, much less beat the Tigers. But we shall see. Always hope in Aggieland.

UPDATE:  LSU 31, Ags 0 at the half. Ouch! I doubt the Horns could beat them, either.

Celebrate our Energy Independence

Texas leads the way, sez young Aggie engineer:

“The United States – not Saudi Arabia or Russia – is now the world’s largest crude oil producer. This was unthinkable a few years ago, when politicians bemoaned our dependence on foreign oil, without ever offering any solutions.

“In the new energy economy Texas leads the way and is almost certain to exceed 5 million barrels per day, or about 40% of the total American output.

“As if to underscore just how huge a player Texas now is, a company here recently inked a deal to export natural gas – to Saudi Arabia.”

12th Imam on the brink

No, not the 12th Man of Texas A&M fame (where Mr. Boy is working this summer and taking two courses) but the mystical one involved with Shiite Armageddon and the imposition of Islamic law on the world.

Shooting down a U.S. Navy drone is a good way to start one…

They’re baaaccck

A dominant #15 Texas (despite being a two-touchdown underdog) smothered an onside kick to ice a 28-21 victory over a highly-overrated #5 Georgia to win the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans. And their first 10-win season since 2009.

So Longhorns QB Sam Ellinger, in accepting the most valuable player award, says “We’re baaaccck!” Looks that way.

Likewise, except that they crushed North Carolina State 52-13, Texas A&M wins the Gator Bowl and a 9-win season.

Good luck, y’all!

UPDATE:  A day later, Bevo’s little ruckus is still attracting fake news. Spurious claims about how Georgia’s little mutt was almost gored. The only one who almost had that honor (as shown in this video) was a cameraman.
