LBJ: stranger than fiction
Seems old Lyndon Baines broke some laws for other than personal gain and one fellow is out to see him declared righteous for it, at least in Israel. LBJ, we hardly knew ye. Nor did your granddaughter, but she’s on the right path.

They are, indeed, and I remember a reference to this subject in one of them. I’m still waiting for Caro to finish the one on the Vietnam years. I expect it is a bit of a struggle for him.

I don’t know about old LBJ, and all. I’m not ever gonna be a fan.
But I think there are a hell of a lot of Americans, like me, who see Israel as our only frikkin’ friend in that part of the world, and support them 100% in spite of all the anti-Israel propaganda spouted all over the internet, print, video, and audio media.
And even in spite of the errors made in their militancy which has resulted in attacks on Americans.

Indeed, I don’t know many Vietnam veterans who have much use for LBJ’s memory.
But the only Israeli attack on Americans I’m aware of was on the Liberty spy ship. They apologized and called it a friendly-fire mistake. Wikipedia has a good file. So is this report:

But, to my mind, it could have been otherwise. The ship was eavesdropping on military communications at a sensitive time, an act-of-war by most interpretations.

I will not go into the Liberty affair, there are too many murky details, but people tend to forget that until after the Six-day war US officialdom wasn’t in any way friendly to Israeli. And Liberty was indeed spying on Israel as well as on its neighbors.
And re LBJ – I have already read some of the stuff, but put together it’s impressive indeed.
