Doesn’t surprise me that I don’t remember this detail about him in the obits I read. Apparently only Imus got him to reveal that he chainsmoked Pall Malls, though V knew it wasn’t PC to talk about it. Banjo Jones, who is trying to quit, has the story. Myself, who is not trying to quit, merely posts it.

    As a matter of fact, he mentioned this in quite a few of his boooks, esp. in non-fiction pieces.
    And yeah, another inspiring example for a smoker (like me).

    I stopped reading him many years ago, and after 9/11 he seemed especially irrelevant.
