A friend in the Northeast sent me the latest collection of jokes making the email rounds. I notice they’re all attributed to the mentally challenged in the South and flyover country. Interesting how these stereotypes linger. Would they be as funny if the idiots portrayed were from Los Angeles or Boston? Depends on where you live, I suppose. Down here we prefer to laugh at New Yorkers and Californicators.

    That “flyover country” term – anytime I hear it from one of the coast dwellers, he/she gets on my (secret) shit list.

    Used to be it was just that expanse you flew over getting from one coast to the other. Nowadays it has a political component, as many of the coastal states vote Dem and the interior ones vote Rep.
