A tale of eminent domain in a small Texas town: If they can’t pull the rug out from under your property immediately–with help from the U.S. Supreme Court–they’ll make your bankruptcy imminent by tying you up in court forever:
"Freeport abandoned its plan for a private marina–only to unveil a plan for a public marina that would also need much of the Gores’ land. As ‘Bulldozed’ closes, the two sides are heading back to the courthouse once more."
Bulldozed, the book, available here. Looks like a natural subject for Hollyweird–as the Texas Observer demonstrates–if they can shake their preference for poor-soldier epics and zombie movies.

I’m not real sure who Carla Main is, but I know the Gores, some of the living ones and some of the dead ones, fairly well. I also know more about that hassle than to buy into everything EITHER of the sides has/is claiming.
For one thing, Western Seafood, just like the rest of the Gulf’s (American) shrimping industry, and I use the term extremely loosely, was almost petered out before they ever got good started on the marina, a vision of which has been kicked around Freeport for more than thirty years.
There were some preceeding incidents that profoundly affected the futures of Freeport, Clute, and Lake Jackson, too, that are not nearly as humourous as the marina fiasco.

I missed the humor here entirely. Seems to me no government should be taking your land, whether your business is going great guns or has fallen on hard times. Howsomeever long the government’s “idea” has been on the drawing board.

I didn’t REALLY mean humourous like funny haha. I just meant there’s more to this story than the surface facts tell.
Lots.

I’m sure you’re right about that, JD.
