Focus fusion’s first “pinch”

This looks promising. The dream of a fusion reactor in every basement. Or, at least, in the backyard.

  1. Hmm… interesting. On one hand, it promises to be aneutronic, which means that it solves one of the main problem Tokamaks cannot resolve: destruction of the retaining walls by neutrons.
On the other hand, the quantity of gamma-radiation will be such that you wouldn’t want one of those in your backyard. Or, in fact, anywhere near San Antonio ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. My forecast probably is over-optimistic. ๐Ÿ˜‰
But they’re talking about having a reactor in every neighborhood, so I guess they don’t see it being as radioactive as all that.
