Events keep dragging me back to my earlier conclusion: we need to get out of Afghanistan. Where the indigenous president is a crook, our generals bicker, and our good troops, like Sgt. R., die young, leaving behind small children. All for gains that are increasingly hard to see. Even Gen. Petraeus is stressed.
UPDATE: Sgt. R.’s remains arrive home in Smithville.

I was at a funeral on the 15th for a young 20yr. old marine that was killed. He did not die in vain and his parents were proud even in time of sorrow. It’s something “Derek” wanted to do. People seem to forget about 911. Tell those who lost family on that dreadful day that we should get out of Afghanistan and I guarantee you that they will say no way. Hunt all responsible for it. Where ever they maybe. You should be proud for all who have died and shameful for your comments about getting out. We’ve lost 31 in this area of south Texas and we’re proud of all of them. My dad was wounded and also a p.o.w for 3 long yrs. in North Korea. I’m a vet as well as ,my brother, and sister. Don’t get my dad started about fighting for freedom.
I’m a combat veteran of Vietnam, Robert, so I’ve earned my dissent. I assure you I’m not the least ashamed of it. But I am proud of all of these men, the living and the dead, and I know they volunteered and feel strongly they are protecting the country. I just think this particular part of the policy has run its course. There will be other places to fight. Iraq is not over, the Islamic Jihadi war certainly isn’t–whatever the current or any future presidents think and do. Thanks for stopping by.
