    This is a real wow photography. Not to belittle the fire too, of course.

    Some of it is back fire, which the Forest Service set to kill the wildfire. The observatory was never in danger. The telephoto lens only makes the fire seem so close. It was actually miles away. But I expect the smoke, light, and heat shimmers played hell with the astronomy.
