The recent wildfire-fighting in Central Texas has been an almost-exclusively ground operation. Thanks to Obamalot, too few water-carrying planes are available.
“The U.S. Forest Service terminated the contract with Aero Union five weeks ago to operate seven P-3 Orions that are critical to the agency’s firefighting mission, leaving the federal government with 11 tankers under contract to help battle more than 50 large uncontained wildfires now burning nationwide.
“That’s down from 40 tankers used by the Forest Service just a decade ago, according to Rep. Dan Lungren (R.-Calif.), chairman of the House Committee on Administration, who is challenging the decision to dismiss the largest provider of heavy air-tanker support to the federal government.”
Of course, Katrina impacted a largely-black New Orleans when a dastardly Republican was in charge of FEMA. The fires are a Western phenom, largely in states that are white and do not vote Democrat—so there’s no big media whoop-de-do about the missing tankers. Tough luck for us.

That’s what I call geopolitics!
Obamalot is very progressive. The Democrat daily, meanwhile, has a piece today contending aerial tankers aren’t really useful. As if the fires east of us would still be burning if they’d been soaked from the air. Imagine the liberal media giving FEMA or Bush Jr. a break. Not.
Well, you wanted cutbacks in the Federal Govt., didn’t you. Besides I thought you did not want Federal interference in Texas affairs!
We want you to do your jobs, instead of constantly dreaming up new ones for business to deal with and new taxes to pay for new bureaucrats to enforce them. And, in this case, making it impossible to do the basic services that are always pointed to as your main reason for existence—police, fire, etc. Without political considerations.
Dick, I agree with you that if there has been a foul up with the bureaucracy or even worse political reasons for Texas not getting the aid it needs from the Federal Govt. in this emergency are definitely good reasons to criticitze the Obama Administration.
It is just that Gov. Perry has been vowing to every Republican meeting all across the US to make the Federal govt. as “inconsequential as possible” and then he turns around and criticize the same govt. for not getting help to Texas. It is awfully close to creating a new definistion of chutzpha!
