I favored Rick Perry and when he dropped out Newt Gingrich because I figured Mittens would be just another whimp, another humble dissenter like McCain back in 2008. So concerned about being called a racist that he’d throw the election rather than be “divisive.”
So I’ve been heartily pleased to be wrong thus far, as in this Romney victory speech, which only Fox News Insider printed in its entirety (thanks for that):
“We will stop the unfairness of urban children being denied access to the good schools of their choice; we will stop the unfairness of politicians giving taxpayer money to their friends’ businesses; we will stop the unfairness of requiring union workers to contribute to politicians not of their choosing; we will stop the unfairness of government workers getting better pay and benefits than the taxpayers they serve; and we will stop the unfairness of one generation passing larger and larger debts on to the next.”
It will help that Uncle Barry’s campaign apparently plans to be as negative as possible:
“Because of his extraordinary ineptness at governing, the president has limited options when it comes to the 2012 campaign. He’s decided to go with the most ruthless, partisan, and divisive alternative open to him.”
But there’s still a long way to go to Nov. 6 and Obama’s court media eunuchs will be on Romney’s case every step of the way. At least he won’t be surprised, with McCain’s deer-in-the-headlights look when the NYTimes turned on him.

The real test will come when they meet face-to-face, and Romney has to deal with the shucking and jiving, lying and distorting, grinning and spinning, son of a bitch.
I don’t think he can. The big O needs to be slapped across his face, and I don’t think Romney has the cojones.
You may be right. But I didn’t think he’d go as far as he already has. The closer Romney can come to Reagan’s approach—calm, affable but assertive—the better his chances. That and the fact that Barry seems to be getting more unpopular by the week.
Oh-oh. I can see how the rest of this year will look…
Yep.
