Montana glaciers refuse to melt
Climate scientists have been revising their predictions of Montana glacier disappearance regularly since 1941. They have to. The damn thing refuses to pay attention to global warming/climate change. They’ve revised it recently to 2044, “which is almost a century later than the original forecast,” says Tony Heller of realclimatesciences.com.
It’s like the supposed death of the polar bears. Which also hasn’t happened no matter how fat Al Gore’s bank account continues to grow.

The origins of PC
“The totalitarian nature of Political Correctness is revealed nowhere more clearly than on college campuses, many of which at this point are small ivy covered North Koreas, where the student or faculty member who dares to cross any of the lines set up by the gender feminist or the homosexual-rights activists, or the local black or Hispanic group, or any of the other sainted “victims” groups that PC revolves around, quickly find themselves in judicial trouble.
“Within the small legal system of the college, they face formal charges – some star-chamber proceeding – and punishment. That is a little look into the future that Political Correctness intends for the nation as a whole.”
Written nineteen years ago and still relevant, prophetic even.

Liberal censorship grows
“There’s no easy way out of this mess—perhaps no way out at all. All of the solutions that have thus far been proposed—breaking up the tech monopolies, removing federal Section 230 protections from social media platforms, and creating alternatives to them—are fraught with possible unintended consequences that could make things even worse.
“Whistleblowers like Cochran offer some hope. Perhaps there are more who will come forward to expose what’s going on in the board rooms and on Slack channels at the Big Tech giants. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll realize that marginalizing half of America is bad for business and change their ways. Don’t hold your breath.”

Hong Kong’s last stand
Mrs Charm’s good friend Michele Kay Schultz, came up in Hong Kong for part of her peripatetic life. She passed in 2011 but her memory lives. Wonder what she’d say about this:
“How, precisely, China (or Hong Kong’s titular boss, Ms. Lam) might be compelled to scrap this proposed extradition law is a question perhaps best left to President Trump’s national security team. But if America, Britain and the rest of the world’s great democracies do not stand squarely, clearly and convincingly with the heroes of Hong Kong, there is a great danger that China will read the further abandonment of Hong Kong’s people as yet another signal that the Free World will not defend its own.”
Russia, after all, defended Venezuela until the threat of a Trump invasion evaporated.

Huckleberry Finn
Saw an ad the other day for Hillsdale College seeking $100 plus donations by offering DVDs of its course on Mark Twain (another of which I took more than fifty years ago at Maryland) with the pitch that his Huckleberry Finn is banned by many American high schools. And more than a few colleges and universities, I imagine.
Because it has the word nigger in it. And a slave character who seems to be taking his slavery in stride. Though Huck is overtly opposed to slavery and racism.
Eleven years later and it’s still banned, eleven years after, that is, I read old Huckleberry to Mr. Boy (then eight years old) who enjoyed it immensely. Primarily, I suspect, because of Huckleberry’s disdain for school and the pc of his own day. The 20th century’s Holden Caulfield is a poor substitute.
Fortunately Huck is not out of print yet (if it’s not censored—sometimes called condensed—as many editions are) and you could enjoy it for yourself.
