Braveheart

No, I’ve never seen the movie and have no desire to. Not only because of the anti-Semitic Mel Gibson who stars in it, but because I generally avoid Hollyweird’s movies. Even when they aren’t anti-American, they are pathetic.

But the Braveheart Theme music, by composer John Horner, is something else. I’ve really enjoyed playing the solo violin part, in the arrangement by young Taylor Davis.

Her expert rendition of it here includes a lot of third position shifting, which gives the high notes a warmer tone. I’m only starting to learn shifting. So I play it only in first position, which is a bit thinner. And I don’t know vibrato yet. Nor am I, after only six months, anywhere near as good at it as she is.

Reminds me, I need to do a Rule 5 on Ms. Davis. I’m sure you can see why.
