Bluebonnets!

"On this day in 1901, the Texas legislature proclaimed the bluebonnet the state flower. In the 1930s the state began a highway-beautification program that included scattering bluebonnet seed beside roadways, thus extending the flower’s range."

They should be starting to bloom right about now, although it’s been so dry this winter, they might be pretty sparse. Nevertheless, they’re looking tall and hardy in this photo from Big Bend.

Hitting the Bend

For something new in tourism, visit the desert.

"Big Bend has been blessed with abundant rain since the beginning of August. This year, we are enjoying the Chihuahuan Desert’s version of a monsoon. It is not an annual event. If it were, it wouldn’t be a desert.  Daily temperatures have been  very pleasant, much cooler than average. Bring a sweater."
