What, the economy doesn’t jump when he orders it?

Would be helpful to lower taxes and cut back on voluminous federal business regulations (not to mention repealing Obamacare) but that’s (apparently) too obvious for our disgraceful president.

“Obama taxes Americans. He taxes their incomes, their lifebloods and their patience. He has put his entire faith in taxes, in grubbing up enough money to serve as collateral for his latest scheme. And the road that his paradise of amnesty for illegal aliens, green energy for electric poverty and more government employees to administer the whole mess leads to is Detroit.”

He talks and talks and nothing happens. He doesn’t care. He’s got his.

Why I don’t like Obamacare

Not just because of the 22 tax increases (12 of them hitting the middle class)  it will bring us starting next year. Or the consequently lower chances of reducing unemployment and a return to pre-2008 prosperity anytime soon.

But because, fundamentally, Obamacare is a Leftist fraud that will not save money nor increase fairness but only raise costs and reduce choices, which will screw the poor and most of the rest of us as well.

“Pretty much wherever government has asserted the old Progressive/New Deal/Great Society need for total control of some segment of the society or economy, the ground has been sown with salt.” —James DeLong in Ending Big SIS (the Special Interest State).

More here from DeLong in a good interview on Reason TV.

It was obvious this power-grab of one-third of the economy was only going to prolong hard economic times even before the toady chief justice joined the lockstep liberals in declaring Obamacare A-OK with the constitution.

Eisenhower helped LBJ with Vietnam

It’s a commonplace among many Vietnam veterans to despise Lyndon Johnson, not only for his escalation of the American war in Viet Nam, but because he allegedly insisted on running the war by himself, to the extent of choosing targets for aerial bombardment of the North.

Lo and behold comes a new book in which it is revealed that Johnson relied on former President Eisenhower for military advice in the running of the war. To the extent that Ike planned a lot of the stuff for which LBJ has gotten the credit/blame. Could the old Supreme Commander Allied Forces Europe have been losing his stuff? Of course it was Johnson’s decision to escalate in the first place.

Surprise: our new leftist supreme court

UPDATE: One of the most risible of CJ Roberts’ excuses for joining the lockstep liberals in upholding Obamacare with its power grab of one third of our faltering economy was that it was the court’s job to uphold, not kill, federal statutes. Then, quietly, the court killed 32 of 33 other laws—including Arizona’s attempt to control its own border with Mexico since the corrupt feds refuse to do it. Cretin.

Diddling with Paint Shop Pro X

I bought this software because it was about a tenth the price of Adobe’s Photoshop and, supposedly, does most of the same things. Indeed, it’s been dandy for creating DIY book covers for POD efforts, though it takes patience and careful following of the User Guide.

I’m just about ready to produce my Civil War historical novel. I rode the query-letter hamster wheel for seven months without getting a single look at the manuscript. I’m told one should plan to wait two years but, at my age, well… Besides, my usually-tough in-house editor loved it and so I’m moving on.

(Uh, I checked the dictionary too late. I chose an unfortunate verb for the headline. Should have been fiddling. Well, who knows? It may turn into another Roberta Vasquez moment.)

Shameless self-congratulation

Akaky celebrates a milestone, aided and abetted by the lovely Roberta Vasquez:

"…from the day I first mentioned her, my site meter tells me, Roberta Vasquez has always been among the top five reasons why people come to "The Passing Parade," and I would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her help in getting this blog to its 30,000th visitor."

Just goes to show that you can fool Google and its brethren search engines from time to time.

Shameless political promotion

Akaky, he of (as he puts it) the Vampire State, has raised another $5.75 for his pursuit of the Democrat presidential nomination, after he crosses the street to redeem the bottles at the grocery. But the MSM is still ignoring him and Daily Kos hasn’t even taken to sneering at his conservative views and demanding that he, like Joe Lieberman, be run out of the party. So he’s taken to slyly including the name of former Playmate Roberta Vasquez in his political posts, a naked (as it were) attempt to raise his hit count. That’s because he had previously noticed that his mentions of her had drawn an inordinate large number of search engine visitors.
