The monster Cho

Media savvy enough to make and send a video to NBCNews after his first two killings. Maybe we’ll find out what Ismail Ax meant. He may not have been a jihadi, but he’s read their playbook.

UPDATE  Or maybe we won’t. MSNBC is playing gatekeeper with it, showing only what they deem worthy of our consumption.

LAST UPDATE  NBC finally showed it and MSNBC made the clips available on the Web. Then the avalanch of protest began. Including this apology for the rest of the MSM from Don Surber at the Charleston (WVA) Daily Mail. I get it, but I don’t agree. Despicable as it was, the video and other materials the cockroach Cho left behind are, by definition, news, and it wasn’t NBC’s duty to shield our sensitivities by hiding it. It was their duty to release it. Maybe they could have done it better. I didn’t watch them and I won’t view the clips. But they did the right thing.

The hero

As Michael, a commenter at SimplyJews, puts it: "So many Holocaust survivors feel guilty, wondering why they lived when others died. I guess we now know why Prof Librescu lived."

So far, Israeli engineering professor and Holocaust survivor Liviu Librescu, 77, is the only one of the victims of Virginia Tech killer Seung Cho known to have fought back. He blocked a door while his students jumped out windows. If a few had stayed to help him, would it all have turned out the same?

UPDATE  Nice to be in such company as Mark Steyn: "It is a poor reflection on us that, in those first critical seconds where one has to make a decision, only an elderly Holocaust survivor, Professor Librescu, understood instinctively the obligation to act."
