Everybody (well, almost everybody) complains about illegal immigration, particularly the millions coming across the southern border (not far, as it happens, from where I sit), but nobody does anything about it. Certainly not the politicians in Washington, who seem only interested in mining the new vote-getting possibilities. Well, almost nobody, that is, except Hazelton, PA, which has passed a creative new ordinance making it illegal to rent property there to illegals. Naturally the ACLU is fighting this, as the ACLU is wont to fight anything that seeks to solve any local problem or preserve any local way of life with which the ACLU disagrees. Consequently little Hazelton, population 22,000 or thereabouts, needs help and here’s a place where you can join in providing it.

There cannot be too many people left in Mexico if they are coming into Texas by the millions. They have gotten as far as Vermont.
It’s not just Texas, of course, but the whole southern border. And there are plenty of people left in Mexico–107.4 million as of July, ’06 according to the CIA. Border Patrol reported catching more than 933,000 in 2006 and it’s generally agreed that they catch less than a quarter of the total who come across.

But the CIA told us that Hussen had weapons of mass destruction. (Could this be another Bush conspiracy?) Que pasa.
The CIA’s World Alamanac figures are generally reliable. Besides, he did have WMD…chemicals, anyway. It’s Que Paso, Joe.

What are you, anti-landlord? You communist!Seriously, why do you hate free-market economics?
Hmmm. My guess is the Hazelton landlords really don’t want to rent to illegals (who pack themselves in to save money, thereby ruining the carpet, paint, appliances, etc.) but need the cover of a law not to do it. Otherwise, it would be discrimination. I used to be a landlord. The only way I could avoid the illegals here in the People’s Republic of Austin was to say upfront that I wanted only a single or a couple, but I was playing with fire all the time. Luckily I never got burned.
Thank you for the link. I have a question that someone out there may know. Is the ACLU in violation of their charter by helping illegal aliens – law breakers who have violated our immigration laws? If you know, please leave me a note/comment so I can follow-up. Thank you.
Sorry to be so late in answering, but, no, I don’t know if they are in violation of their charter. I rather doubt it. I do remember some media stories a year or so ago about their board of directors being upset about some of their cases, thinking them too far afield, but I don’t remember the specifics. I suppose you have tried Google already. Sorry.
