  1. Amazing. Isn’t a correspondent allowed to voice his personal opinion in public? Is it a part of NYT contract?

  2. Generally not desired, no, and sometimes explicitely forbidden. But I have seen or read of plenty of their reporters making pessimistic public remarks about the war in general or Iraq in particular. Most reporters at most newspapers do not have contracts. I don’t know what the situation is at the NYTimes.
