Iraqis going to M-4/M-16

They’ll be dropping their AK-47s in favor of the American automatic rifle. Badger Six says that’s good.

  1. Sorry, I beg to differ on this one. From personal experience: M16 is indeed superior in ease of handling and precision, but in desert areas the issue of sand becomes critical, and M16 needs a lot of cleaning to prevent accumulation of sand in its vitals… Otherwise it just jams when you need it most.
When it’s raining, on the other hand, it is second to none.

I thought about that, too. Supposedly that’s an AK advantage. But I figure it is partly a way of recouping all the money we’ve spent on them, to sell them our arms. But there’s also something to what Badger Six says: “The adoption of the M16 series of rifles is about commitment. Commitment to training, commitment to maintenance, commitment to professional Soldiering.”
