What, I wondered, in the age of anti-tobacco-ism, had happened to the pipe cleaners of my misspent youth? Would you believe they have been renamed? They are now known as chenille stems. Heh.

    I wonder what is there in the linguistic PC store for tobacco? I mean, aside of “controlled substance”.

    Beats me. It’s still sold and still out in the open to be seen, but it’s been a long time since I saw, say, a standup cutout of a person hawking tobacco of any kind.
