Two dollar gas

Well, between two dollars and eighteen cents and two dollars and eighty-nine cents a gallon of regular in Austin. I don’t see how this can do anything except turn the economy around, lowering food prices (food being delivered by truck) and stimulating travel and tourism.

MORE: It could be this is mainly the reaction of the thugocracy oil ticks to the threat of competition ("Drill, baby, drill.") Why else would Russia withdraw from Georgia, and might never invade Ukraine?

  1. The lowest I have bought reg. gas for is $2.65, and $3.47, for deisel, here in west central Fl. By all rights it should help the folks who have to commute to work, etc. AS for lowering food costs, I doubt once the big grocery chains found they could get the higher prices, that they will be cutting back, very quickly. But I have become very cynical, lately. Guess we’ll have to hope for the best, even with Nov.4th real close.

  3. I wonder about those grocery chains. When people have to pay more for staples, like bread, meat and milk, they cut back on discretionary stuff, like cookies, candy, and ice cream. So I doubt it would be in the chains’ interest to keep prices high if their supplier costs (fuel for the trucks) was declining.

  5. $2.74 for regular in the Northeast Kingdom (cheaper in southern Vermont). Supermarket chain up here is offering 10cents off per gallon of gas up to 20 gallons for every $50 of groceries and prescriptions purchased. Reedemable a Sunoco stations. Could get a tankful free if you buy enough groceries over a three month period. Joe
