Kindle creeps me out

Nevermind the ease of reading and the low cost of electronic publishing. Amazon reserves the legal right to reach out across the airwaves and remotely delete books from your Kindle wherever you are. Might not be long before the government is examining your reading habits and deleting what it doesn’t like.

  1. I have been thinking about getting one, I read a lot and thought it might be cool to get books right away.
    But…..
Notice in their “apology”, they say they will make sure they don’t do it in the future.
Notice that they don’t say they’ll make it so they can’t do it in the future, but won’t.
In other words, they’ll do it again.
If you follow the links to Volokh, there is a great comment.
“1984 has never been available for Kindle.”
    That’s funny.

That is funny. Thanks for the update. Yes, I’m sure they’ll do it again.
I also was thinking about getting one but balked at the price and the way it looks like it would be hard to hold — because the buttons are along the outer edges. The Sony reader might be better. I wonder if it can be remotely deleted as well?

  3. There are quite a few other models, not tethered by any link to the Big Bro. I am currently doing some preliminary shopping, could share the results in a month or so if you are interested.

Yes, do. I notice that Sony, like Kindle, offers its own library. I wonder if there’s one that can pick from each?
