Texas castles

1837023A Bavarian fairy-tale castle? Nope. A Texas one. Actually, the old Romanesque Revival, granite and sandstone, Dallas County courthouse. Photographer Rick Turner has a better, but copyrighted, version here.

  1. Yeah, the old courthouse here in Brazoria, over on the next block, looked a bit like that, more Gothic, I think. But they lost the Brazoria County seat to Angleton via political maneuvering, somehow, and eventually it burned down. I’ve looked into it just a bit, but trying to find out stuff like that, that you can believe, is difficult, to say the least.

Many courthouses around the state are grandiose, in one way or another, but this is one of the few I’ve seen that has turrets.

  3. Must have plenty of ghosts. In pink, I am afraid 🙂

I wonder, with all those windows. Few murky spots for ghosts, probably.
