Texian volunteer at the Alamo, a reenactor on this 175th anniversary of the Texas Revolution.
At least his physique is plausible.
Too many reenactors these days, particularly Civil War ones, are aging fatsos with white hair. Reflecting our overfed, indulgent culture, rather than the more austere 19th century.
Photo by San Antonio author Celia Hayes whose good gallery of such snaps is here.

Yep. Looks cool, down to the whiskers 😉
Interesting sidelocks, for sure. Scraggly as they are. And, what do you know, he has a black hat. 😉
“Too many reenactors these days, particulary Civil War ones, are aging fatsos with white hair.”
I resemble that remark! A fellow Civil War reenactor and friend, once remarked that he and his fellow overweight reenactors would play the roles of the bloated dead soldiers the day after the battle!
I wonder if the Alamo re-enactor’s sideburns are real or fake.
In that case, you should lose weight so you can creditably play the part, or recruit and tutor a young friend to do it.
Dick, I started Civil War re-enacting 25 years ago at the 125th anniversary re-enactment of 1st Bull Run. With the 150th anniversary of the Civil War starting, your suggestion that I teach the young recruits is a good one. Will give something to do besides being a camp follower.
I think the coolest bunch of reenactors I ever saw was a group in Florida portraying Indian warriors from the Seminole War of the 1830s. They were so authenitic that I can not recall whether or not they were Seminoles or Whites.
