“…the culture is poisonous…”

“Some of the sadness and frustration following Aurora has to do with the fact…that no one thinks anyone can, or will, do anything to make our culture better. The film industry isn’t going to change, the genie is long out of the bottle.”

The Dark Night Rises, indeed.

OTOH, if American culture is toxic, something better is happening behind the scenes. Auroras are, in fact, declining. In the 2000s, murders and mass murders have dropped to their lowest levels since the 1960s.

  1. The film industry follows the money, so it definitely isn’t going to change, not its successful money-wise style.

I don’t know. Romantic comedies make plenty of money, too. The movies don’t have to be all blood and guts and gasoline explosions. They could tone down the violence and still clean up. Not that I expect them to.

You know, the blood & guts movies might just be because they have so many wimpy actors nowadays (Sean Penn, for instance) they all want to be in some tough guy movie to prove they’re really men. In the old days, the glamour boys were real soldiers, like Clark Gable and Jimmy Stewart.
