“Why did the National Security Council watch passively for seven hours while our ambassador and three other Americans died?”
Why, indeed? The Liar President couldn’t have let them die without help from all concerned, including the “workplace violence” (i.e. Fort Hood jihadi massacre) Pentagon. The Joint Chiefs of Staff should resign, now!
UPDATE: Fox News and the Christian Science Monitor are on the case. As Instapundit says: Remember, no one died in Watergate.
MORE: From military writer Bing West in National Review: “Fighter jets could have been at Benghazi in an hour; the commandos inside three hours,” Mr. West wrote.
“If the attackers were a mob, as intelligence reported, then an F-18 [Navy fighter jet] in afterburner, roaring like a lion, would unnerve them. This procedure was applied often in the Iraq and Afghanistan [campaigns]. Conversely, if the attackers were terrorists, then the U.S. commandos would eliminate them. But no forces were dispatched from Sigonella [Italy].”

I don’t think that air support would have mattered, and commando force wouldn’t have been in time to save the four.
What concerns me more is the coverup after the act.
The coverup is disgusting, but typical of Barry and this generation of Democrats (the Woodstock hippie generation as I have it in an upcoming post).
The commandoes had plenty of time to get there (it was a seven-hour fight, after all) if the Pentagon had done its job. Probable that they were stopped by the White House trying not to piss off the Jihadis. Handing over the ambassador as a sacrificial goat.
I do think, along with West, that air power alone could have made the difference, particularly a blacked-out AC-130 firing a 105 mm cannon at the ground. If the enemy had missiles, you’d think that fact would have been released as an excuse by now. Even so, the AC-130 (Spooky as we called its older, C-47 version in Vietnam) puts out plenty of chaff to blind a missile and none have been lost over Afghanistan or Iraq.
