Good luck, Charlottesville

Charlottesville, Virginia, is the first U.S. city to ban drones in its air space as as one councilman put it “pretty clearly a threat to our constitutional right to privacy.” Hey, no kidding. Not to mention our very existence if the drone is armed. But will the feds comply? I doubt that even the state government is likely to pay any attention.

UPDATE:  Other cities and some states, including Texas, also are considering such bans. Could be because the cops these days look so much like soldiers that we already feel that our neighborhoods are under siege.

MORE: Speaking of cops, did you catch how the LAPD shot first and asked questions later on two women delivering newspapers in a truck that did not even fit the description of the killer’s truck they were after? They peppered the neighborhood with bullets. Imagine what these “professionals” could do with drones.

  1. I don’t know about Austin and environs, but we here in Brazoria have rejected the city proposal for building a water park (ridiculousness) and instead spent the money on our own Iron Dome system and SAMs, ringing the area from the San Bernard to the Brazos and Damon to Jones Creek.

  2. Now jdallen has answered my question about enforcing that ban. Good idea. But then the Feds will start using a Black Bird kind of stuff.

  3. Ah, no, Mr. Goon. They retired the Blackbird. As they seem to be retiring about half the Navy’s carriers. Got to pay for all that welfare, you know.

Sounds good, JC. Austin, the city, is way too Lefty to argue with our federal superiors. Except when there’s a Republican in the White House, of course.

  4. Back to California: cops in Torrance shot up a car (three shots) after ramming it, causing the driver, on his way to go surfing, a concussion & shoulder injury from the crash. The cops fired because his airbag obstructed the cops’ view of him, so they fired anyway. The victim is white, shorter & 100 pounds lighter. His truck did not match the description of what they were looking for.

But if you’re in danger, call 911 & believe that they’ll get to you in time & not shoot you by mistake.

  5. And as for Austin, I remember well & am not surprised.

In Portland, Oregon, we had a similar situation. At the start of the GWOT, the city government very proudly announced how they would not cooperate with the Feds because it might look like they were targeting Others.

After Obama was elected, they re-evaluated their position because they felt more secure about who they were working with.

  6. With all due respect to the nice people who live in Portland, I don’t think I would be too upset if the Norks picked that city to test their new ICBM on. Altho, all in all, I would much prefer San Francisco.

The California branch of the Badge Gang is really on a tear, isn’t it? Here in Lefty Austin they only manage to shoot one or two people a year. Oddly enough it’s always some black or Hispanic teenager.

  7. “They retired the Blackbird.”

That’s true, but do you really believe they retired the bird without having a replacement?

    • Well, they haven’t announced any replacement for the Blackbird and not having grown up in the Soviet Union or living now in the Middle East, I don’t tend to think in conspiracy terms where the government is always hiding what it’s really doing. Sometimes they do, sure, but not routinely, and they’re usually found out
