Joey Hairplugs, who seems to live for sounding like a tough guy, epitomizes Cactus Jack Garner’s famous remark that the vice presidency isn’t worth a pitcher of warm spit.

But when it comes to firearms advice, Slow Joe is an actual moron who advises Americans to break the law and injure their neighbors by firing shotguns in the air to ward off burglars. Or as the NRA puts it “As often as he puts his foot in his mouth, it’s a wonder Vice-President Joe Biden can walk.”

Oh, I don’t think he walks. He may not remember how. He”s been sucking on the federal teat his whole life and very probably only rides, in limos at our tax expense.

    I thought Garner actually said “b…ucket of warm piss” and it was just cleaned up a bit for public consumption to “…spit”

    I always heard spit, but also bucket. Wikipedia disagrees. Says Garner was reported to have said, variously, piss and spit, sometimes a bucket, sometimes a quart. LBJ said Garner told him it was a pitcher of spit.

    I decided to go with LBJ, despite his being a notorious liar. He is reported to have once said, when encountering a reporter asking too many questions about his government doings: “Don’t piss in the soup, we all got to eat.”

    I had heard the bucket version, but the spit was almost correct, except for one letter.

    The other famous saying of his was “If it’s true, it ain’t braggin’.”

    It’s interesting that Cactus jack gained his nickname because of the battle he fought against the Ladies’ Garden Clubs of Texas over the state flower, which was eventually the bluebonnet. He insisted that it be the cactus.

    Much as I like the Bluebonnet, I have to admit that Cactus Jack was right. The Prickly Pear, with its red and yellow flowers, would have made more sense. It’s year-round, not just in the spring.
