Wagging the dog

Oh, good, another American war by presidential whim, another war we can’t possibly win, this time backing our own enemies.

The only possible explanation for this new catastrophe-in-the-making is that Wormtongue is wagging the dog, as the old movie title went, trying to divert attention from the scandals engulfing his administration.

UPDATE:  It will be amusing to see if congressional reassertion of its sole right to approve military force will have any effect on an administration already run amuck.

  1. On this issue I am almost ready to pity Obama: he has his unmentionables in a vise. Both sides: those arguing against and for intervention are right and wrong at the same time. No good decision on that one, I am afraid.

On the contrary, the best decision would be to let the civil war continue on its own, pushing others to stay out of it. As we should have done with Vietnam. This way the Russians will feel freer to back the dictator, not to mention the Iranians, et al. And if we don’t supply MANPADS, they will, and can a downed airliner be far away?

  3. But that, true as it may be, doesn’t relieve the pressure on Obama. That’s the only point I wanted to make.

He’s had pressure on him before, the opposition both in Congress and in the polls, against Obamacare and he plowed ahead. He just likes backing Islamists, I think, as he did in Libya.
