Our Blue Norther approacheth

ECI8

Daytime temp started at 56 degrees this morning. Now, at noon, it’s 42. Our norther approaches. Good thing we have no livestock at the rancho to get under shelter. Only faucets to drip.

Even Mr. Boy, who usually joins his peers in wearing basketball shorts to school in the winter (don’t ask) wore long trousers this morning. Although not jeans. Jeans seem to be passe, here in our version of the Texas burbs. No kickers in sight.

Who knows? Tomorrow, when it’s forecast be in the 30s a.m. with rain and continuing the rest of the daylight hours (before dropping into the 20s overnight with only overcast) he might even wear a coat.

It’s a macho thing, presumably, though I have seen girls his age (thirteen) doing it, too. At my age I wear two layers when its only in the 60s. 😉

  1. Running the truck A/C when I got to Wal-Mart for some dog food and people food…when I came out I didn’t need it any more.

    Found you…you can’t hide.

    • Norther’s moving fast, eh? Already at the Brazos. Glad you’re still hanging in there, JD. Scott’s at M.D. Anderson this week, in case you wan to shoot him an encouraging email. Yahoo! would like for me to hide I’m sure.

  2. I can remember doing the same thing as a kid, and so with my kids and grandkids. I think kids are just more impervious to the cold.

I feel your pain though. It was 15° this morning here.

I’m well acquainted with Blue Northers growing up in South Texas. My folks always quipped that the only thing between Texas and Canada was a barbed wire fence in Nebraska.

  3. Brr… We had a stormy night the other day, and it’s much colder now, but not to that extent, of course. At least we got some water, after an almost totally dry November.

    • It’s 34 at the moment, supposed to go down to 27 tonight, but, hopefully, we will not see 15 degrees anytime soon. Apparently some ice on the roads early this morning caused the school district to delay its start until 10:15 a.m. No precip on the radar at this hour.
