I bought Mr. Boy two wristwatches (trying to find one that suited him) before I decided to investigate his claim that his generation doesn’t wear them.
Sure enough, I’ve never seen one on a kid at his school the times I’ve been around and looking. Or at the grocery. Or anywhere else. But, like him, they carry phones which display the time whether there’s a call or not.
Darkwater says he saw a report that wristwatch sales are down 30 percent. Could be. Then he touts this successor to the plain-Jane timepiece and the pocket-filling phone.
Maybe. But I see two problems: one, Mr. B’s generation prefers texting to voice, for which they need a keyboard, and two they also need a larger screen than these wrist-size screens for the games they play when they’re not texting.

I find it hard to wear mine, any more. The numbness and tingling residual from the blood clot in my arm make it feel funky. So I usually leave it off, any more.
Sorry to hear things are that bad, JD.
I see the two of them working together though. The watch is a major convenience while the phone stays in your pocket, but when you need a larger display and keyboard, you can take out the phone and use it.
Besides, I’m an old guy who still likes watches.
We adults do things like that. Kids his age are one-trackers. Course they will learn, one way or another. Mr. B. has now been informed that having been tardy to school more than 14 times he must serve a Saturday morning detention. Not sure if that will change his mind about the convenience of having the time easily accessible on his wrist, but it might.
“Saturday morning detention” will give him a different perspective of time. As you say, will it help? Who knows. I remember serving detention and how the large clock on the wall NEVER seemed to move. Only later did I realize it was part of a fiendish plot to increase our suffering. Oh, how I remember that clock!
I also served detention, though it wasn’t for tardy. I had a wristwatch, after all. 😉 He may watch the clock. I did. But his grades are better than mine were at his age, so he may spend the time doing homework.
Argh… that design reminds me the first digital watches too much for my sanity. No way, sir!
