Okay, say the federal gestapo (known as the IRS) really did lose three years worth of former director Lois Lerner’s emails. Just as a thought experiment.
What about all the other fed agency recipients of her emails in those years? Not to mention the originators of the ones sent to her? Are they also missing?
They might well be, for as Instapundit says: “I think it’s fair at this point to assume that the ‘missing’ emails are missing because someone in the White House was behind this.”
If so, then if there is a conspiracy (to protect the White House) that is much wider than anyone has noticed so far. Congress could start by subpoenaing all Lerner emails for those years from all federal agencies.

UPDATE: Instead, Congress wants the actual IRS hard drive they claim destroyed the missing emails. Any competent IT guy should be able to recover them.

Maybe, maybe not. They ain’t gonna do anything, Dick. No jail for Lois, no knuckle-rap for holder, no impeachment for obama. Nothing but a bunch of blather designed to help elect republicans no better than the democrats who are kicked out.
Maybe. Probably, Meantime, I can dream. I have a dream.
I know several IT folks who scoff at the ‘unrecoverable’ crap excuse about the emails.
It’s been bad enough working for the IRS, but now whatever actual honest brokers who remain there will have to endure withering comments for nigh unto a generation, and beyond.
Latest is that it’s unrecoverable because the IRS threw the hard drive away. They don’t deserve belief or trust anymore. Not that they ever had it. Son of one of my mother’s best friends worked for them and when I went to visit him one time she pleaded with me not to say anything that might cause them tax trouble. Nobody trusts the IRS, nor should they.
“Any competent IT guy should be able to recover them.” Not necessarily, if a thorough cleaning was done it is gone…
