J.E.B.’s LeMat

I met a young astronomer years ago who was descended from Confederate Gen. J.E.B. Stuart. “So where was he?” I asked the scientist. He knew immediately what I was referring to. He replied: “We should have won.” I said if we had he would most likely be a farmer and not an astronomer as there would be no call for astronomy. I do like this commemoration, 10-shot LeMat, .44 cal ball and .65 cal shotgun combined. A working copy of which you can reserve for a mere $3,395. But it’s really too pretty to shoot.

Race hustlers: put up or shut up

It’s the oldest ploy in the Left’s playbook: when you can’t win an argument, accuse your opponent of racism. Breitbart has a great comeback for the Black Congressional Caucus’ accusation of Tea Party racial slurs. If they prove their claim with a video or audio recording Breibart will pay $10,000. Otherwise… It’s a safe bet. If they could prove it, it would have been all over the Dem’s client media by now.

Fire amid ice

photo_verybig_114417That Iceland volcano, whose eruption has sent five hundred fleeing. The Seablogger, an amateur vulcanologist, is on the case. One of his commenters, R. de Haan, came up with this good aerial video emphasizing the weird juxtaposition of fire and ice. Flooding from melting ice is the main fear now. (Unless you’re a Scientologist worried about Xenu’s attitude.)

UPDATE:  The flooding hasn’t occurred but now the worry is that this eruption, as it has in the past, will trigger the eruption of Katla, a much bigger volcano which would have hemispheric effects.

Memo to the Titanic

I’m trying to ignore our ignoble politics, wishing a pox on both parties. So I think the best way to deal with this weekend’s takeover of the health-care system is to ignore it. But the Seablogger’s take is just too good to miss (including the title above):

“I am a cancer patient, and I would have been dead years ago if my private insurer had not seen me through. Your death panels would surely disallow the drugs that have kept me alive. My life lacks the social worth to be prolonged.”

Oh, indeed. Only the young (and Dems) will prosper from this catastrophe.

UPDATE:  Usually, the legacy media can be counted on to cover a protest at the hint of a chant. Ah, but not when they’re the wrong kind of protesters.

Michelle “Bombshell” McGee

No, she’s not here, folks, but since I’m getting so many hits for the above string of search terms (apparently because Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock lives in Texas, at least part of the time) I thought the least I could do was provide something. I’m still wondering why Bullock, who seems relative sensible, would marry somebody named Jesse James in the first place. But that’s Hollyweird.

Back in the olden days

Government medicine, or government bread

Amazes me how the legacy media can get away with, repeatedly, calling Obamacare “health care reform,” or “health care overhaul,” when it is really about a government takeover. Not as pleasant sounding, I suppose. Like “free” bread:

“If you relied upon the government for your bread, you would accept what you were given, and you would be given what politicians think you were willing to accept. They would conceal the massive cost of its inefficient production by telling you it was free. Because this is a lie, you would soon find yourself staring at an empty shelf, remembering the days when you could choose between six different brands of honey wheat bread, while politicians explained why your nostalgia reflects a greedy and selfish desire to return to an impossible age.”
