I’m wondering about all the negative hoorah over Sen. Hagel. Is he for-real evil or just another hack pol who can’t remember to tell the truth, if he ever knew it? Brett Shephens, at the link below, shows how he prefers to ride on bandwagons.

The fact that he’s a former Vietnam grunt with two Purple Hearts is interesting but hardly dispositive of anything (so is that creep Kerry) because he’s been a pol for several decades now, a line of “work” that doesn’t require being courageous or smart, just “flexible.” Hence:

“Moving forward, in 2008 Mr. Hagel endorsed engagement with Syria’s Bashar Assad and North Korea’s Kim Jong Il, and he was especially keen on engagement with Iran, enthusing at one point that ‘Iran had rights for women long before many countries in the world. Women could vote, I actually think before they could vote in America.’ (He’s wrong: Iranian women were enfranchised only in 1963, thanks to the Shah.)”

That he’s a liar or a fool doesn’t surprise me. That he might withhold military aid (i.e. bombs or ammo) from Israel at some crucial time worries me. On the other hand, does Barry think Hagel’ll be denied confirmation and have someone worse (like Samantha Powers) waiting to benefit from a consolation quicky follow-on approval? Or is that too paranoid?

Ted Nugent sums it up in a letter to VP Joe Biden and his commission on “gun violence”:

“You will find in your assessment that all of the massacres have occurred in gun-free zones. What gun-free zones create is an environment where good people are unarmed and virtually defenseless against an unstable person intent on committing mass murder. Gun-free zones are modern killing fields. I implore you to recommend that Congress pass a law to ban gun-free zones immediately.”

Not that we can expect Slow Joe, the Democrat’s champion moron, to recommend such an anti-PC position, especially not when these “hunting preserves” were created by Slick Willie’s administration.

Indeed, the Progressives probably want to expand the preserves, ’cause every time a bunch of people are killed in one of them, the party of the KKK and Jim Crow gets that much closer to restricting gun ownership to the aristos.

The Democrats never change. The party of bureaucrats, big unions, and most of the news and entertainment media, always justify their enlargement of the bureaucracy by claiming they will tax the rich to pay for it.

As usual, however, their latest tax-the-rich scheme turns out to have reached down and clobbered the lower middle class: folks earning $30,000 a year in payroll checks. Which Barry lied about, of course.

But many of these folks (as usual) bought the lie and voted to tax the rich, presumably because they hate people who are better off than they are. So they are getting what they deserve, one more generation of suckers.

Barry & The Dems sure know how to do it: Their new “deal” means higher taxes on 80 percent of households making between $50,000 and $200,000 a year.

Enjoy the job hunt, all you suckers who voted for them. Or maybe you can get on welfare, if you’re not already on it. Until the rising deficit bankrupts the country. At least their pals in L.A. got a tax break. So important.

UPDATE:  There seems to be plenty of media disagreement about the effect of this deal. Bloomberg news, at the link in the first paragraph above, reports the tax hits, the daily says (implausibly) that there will be no tax hikes, and Reason Magazine says taxes will only go up for those making payroll wages over $113,000. Maybe it’s one of those Nancy Pelosi deals: We’ll just have to wait until the media actually reads it before we’ll know what’s in it.

On the other hand, Clinton’s latest medical excuse for not testifying on the Benghazi murders is curiously unexplained. Their Democrat loyalty often blinds the Old Media, but not even a high school journalist would accept unchallenged a spokesman’s refusal to elaborate on something like this.
