Saving the planet by destroying the economy

President Wormtongue’s new “executive order” (read dictator’s fiat) to put new restrictions on power plant carbon emissions will hike unemployment by raising the cost of doing business, i.e. increasing the cost of electricity.

Just like his party’s tax increases which are restraining consumer spending, but have been hidden by federal (read Democrat) manipulation of the data.

Not to mention Wormtongue’s own manipulation of climate “science.”

All of which amazes me, frankly, because back when I voted Democrat the party wasn’t this stupid. They tried to lower unemployment, not raise it. They tried to encourage business, not penalize it. They wanted general prosperity for all, not more welfare and food stamps. But, then, they didn’t send cretins to the White House just because their skin was the preferred color.

Free at last, free at last…

For almost fifty years, the  electoral rules of Texas and seven other states have been chained to the federal government’s whim, particularly the Democrat Party’s whim, since the Democrat Party is the political party of a clear majority of the federal bureaucrats who make the rules.

The chains came off the other day with a Scotus ruling and the Democrats immediately cried foul, along with the usual race mongers who are still fighting Jim Crow decades after its wings came off, as they should have, and did. It’s just politically convenient for the Democrat Party to keep up the fiction that black and other minority rights are still at risk unless the feds control the rules. Cobb has a nice summary:

“Those states, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia have essentially been on probation for fifty years. Now they can change their laws without special oversight from the Federal Government.

“It probably comes as no surprise that these are all ‘red’ states that voted for Romney in 2012. Well, Virginia was a ‘blue’ state. And similarly comes as no surprise that these [were] all slave states. No, wait, Alaska wasn’t a slave state, neither was Arizona. In fact, no black man was ever even lynched in Arizona. Hmm. Well let’s not get too specific in categorizing them – they were all highlighted as the most racist states hostile to blacks. But Arkansas and Massachussetts were not included. And wasn’t it Florida that was doing the voter disenfranchisement?

“If you see the inconsistency here, then you should understand the simple reason I don’t find a particularly foul odor emanating from the Supreme Court while plenty of folks I see are turning up their noses today.”

Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott celebrated the decision by immediately imposing the voter i.d. requirement passed by the state legislature but overruled by the feds’ “justice” department. Why, yes, the very same Democrat “justice” department that’s been wiretapping the news media.

The Democrat Party is opposed to voter i.d., supposedly because it discriminates against minorities who are too lazy or too stupid to get a photo i.d. although a photo i.d. is required to get you into any federal building anywhere. And now Texas will issue free ones for the hopeless—if they can prove residency with a recent electric bill.

The race police strike again

So some old Southern white woman I never heard of before, who plays a chef for NBC on the rube, admits to having (horrors) used the word nigger back in the 1980s and now, some thirty years later,  she’s to be fired from her chef job?

Well, sure, honey. She be white. Would she be black, now, no way, no how would she be fired. She could say nigger, nigger, nigger (or whitey, whitey, whitey) all she wanted. No questions asked.

The race police of the snooze media wouldn’t even stir from their nap.

UPDATE:  Seems the populace isn’t taking the race police as seriously as they once did. She may have lost her chef job but her cook book is selling like lo-fat hotcakes at Amazon and it’s not even published yet.

MORE:  There’s a rumor about that her problem wasn’t so much saying nigger thirty years ago as tattling on FLOTUS (also known as the Moocher) for eating, eating, eating during  commercials when she was a guest. Hey, no kidding, does she look slim to you?

AND:  The cookbook has been withdrawn by its publisher, despite its advance sales. The race police will out. Makes me think the rumor is true, true, true. You can’t thwart the Moocher without consequences. If the former chef is smart she’ll go indie with the cookbook. Then she won’t have to share the profits with the political publisher.

Gephyrophobia

Finally, a name for what ails me. Not near as bad as when it started, sometime in the early 80s, but still, occasionally, impressive enough even on the Highway 183 overpasses to force me to keep my eyes on the road ahead of the vehicle and not dare to look to either side.

That’s the only way I used to be able to get over the steep bridge from Aransas Pass to the ferry across the Corpus Christi Ship Channel to Port Aransas. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge, on an early 90s visit with Mrs. Charm, put me into a cold sweat. I was shaking the whole, long, four miles of it.

The short, steep bridge from Portland to Corpus Christi? I saw it coming and pulled over to sit and decide whether I could do it. I decided I couldn’t and made a U-turn when the traffic permitted and took the long way around.

Nice to know it’s not a problem unique to me, though its origin is a mystery.

Captain Dave to ground control

I thought for a moment there that Captain Dave of Flight Level 390 had returned to blogging. Then I noticed that the writing style was different and the url had acquired a hyphen. To capitalize on Dave’s fame, I suppose, but I see no ads there yet.

At least one of Dave’s blogging pals has stepped forward with the news that he wasn’t fired or told to stop expressing his opinions of his work on the Internet but merely was tired of blogging. Can’t blame him for that. Esepcially when he has to work and blog. Hope he comes back to it, though. No one better.

UPDATE:  His blog has turned into a PC game download site. Obviously just using his old blog name for its popularity. Pity. Best of luck, captain D.

Hate crime hoaxes

Instead of federal gun control in the face of declining gun crimes and more tax money for the climate change boondoggle when global warming ceased sixteen years ago, how ’bout a mental health investigation of the curious wave of these instances of Leftist Progressive lying?

Have these self-proclaimed saviors of the world truly nothing better to do than conjure up phony hate crimes to confirm their agenda and, not incidentally, attract public pity for themselves?
