Barry Hussein: abortion ghoul

“It’s not surprising that a pro-abortion president would veto any legislation to defund Planned Parenthood. But you have to wonder what kind of ghoul would oppose the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which is designed to protect already-born infants.

“The bill, sponsored by pro-life Congressman Trent Franks [an Arizona Republican], ‘would make failure to provide standard medical care to children born alive during an abortion a federal crime. It would also apply stronger penalties in cases where an overt act is taken to kill the abortion survivor.’”

This is right in keeping with his time in the Illinois legislature when, though usually taking no position on anything and merely voting “present,” he voted against any restriction on abortion, including banning late-term ones.

Our Barry Hussein knows it’s those post-21 weeks abortions that provide the most mature organs for the baby chop shop. He’s not only going to save the abortion mill for poor (mainly black) women who (supposedly) can’t afford contraception (or can’t be bothered to use it), he’s going to keep the baby chop shop, ahem, alive and well.

At least the RINOs, knowing they’d probably lose, had the guts to try.

Go get ’em, Carly

If there’s one thing the Democrat snooze media can’t stand it’s criticizing their beloved Planned Parenthood, which really ought to be named Preventing Parenthood because that’s the main thing they do.

So when Carly called out PP for selling the organs (including brains) of viable but aborted babies at the GOP dog and pony show last night, guess who jumped all over her? Who else but cBSABCNBCCNNWaPoNYTLAT,etc. And the obedient local snooze sheep who follow their every word, wagging their tails behind them.

They claim she made it up. Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist shows you that she didn’t. Mollie even invites you to watch the video in question, if you have a strong stomach.

Should, as Carly says, PP be defunded? Sounds good to me. What is this abortion conglomerate doing drawing federal tax money in the first place? Ah, you should ask the Democrats. And, of course, their RINO allies.

UPDATE:  House votes to defund PP for one year, while investigating PP’s fetal parts business. One whole year?! Gad those RINOs are gutsy. A pox on all of them.

I Am Stoopid

That’s the slogan on the tee shirts they should give free to everyone who attends (and applauds) a Bernie Sanders speech. You know, the Democrat front-runner.

“…much more humane,” continues commentor ThaiSmile, an anonymouse at Instapundit, “than putting them in stocks to be ridiculed, or branding with an appropriate letter so they won’t be confused with real functioning human beings.”

Re “a good old-fashioned fisking” at Power Line titled: “Bullshit From Bernie.”

Such as the notion that Muslims are supposed to do unto infidels, etc: “The idea that the Golden Rule sums up the universal wisdom of religious faith is very silly, but is commonly held by non-religious people.” People like Bernie-the-atheist.

Haven’t read a good fisking in years? Me neither. As Insty says: Read. It. All.

The Grammar of God

Aviya Kushner’s gentle, engaging prose in The Grammar of God pulls you along on what might at first seem to be a nitpicking journey into the words of the Bible, in its original Hebrew and its subsequent translations into various languages, principally English in the best-known King James Version of 1611.

Then it turns compelling. You discover such “mistranslations,” or perhaps intentional choices, as in the Commandment (in the English KJV) not to kill. Which has occasioned more than 400 years of conscientious objection to war.

In the original Hebrew the word is murder. “In biblical Herbew,” Kushner writes, “there is a gaping difference between the verb ‘to kill’—laharog—and the verb ‘to murder’—lirtzoach….This word choice matters because there are acceptable forms of killing in the Bible (such as self-defense).”

Moreover, “the phrase ‘the Ten Commandments’ appears nowhere in the Hebrew,” she concludes. It’s “the ten sayings.” Which makes it even more obvious that the KJV translators in particular and probably other translators of the Hebrew into Greek, Aramaic, Arabic, Chinese, etc., have brought their own interpretations to the text which millions rely on for spiritual guidance. Some of them on the exact wording.

Nevertheless, Kushner is at pains to forgive such issues: “Translators throughout time have faced impossible choices. They could not bring everything over in the great journey from Hebrew to another language—and maybe they didn’t want to.”

For such surprising discoveries alone the book is worth your time and money.

Bigger than Dunkirk

A video that’s been around at least since 2007, but I never saw it before Friday.

It teaches a great lesson in the heroism of the common man. As its epigraph says: A hero is a man who does what he can.

Rule 5: Gil Elvgren’s Annette

A sympathetic Nixon

And sympathetic Watergate burglars in Thomas Mallon’s Watergate: A novel. As well as a pox on the houses of the mendacious journalists and Democrat pols who ran the coup that caused Nixon to resign and the first-offense burglars to suffer disproportionate prison sentences—imposed by a judge encouraged to overstep by his picture running on the cover of Time magazine.

All of whose 1970s-80s canonization has lately been questioned by historians. And of course it’s as well written as Mallon’s other novels, such as Henry and Clara, historical fiction about the aftermath of Lincoln’s asassination. With rich characterizations of even minor figures. You do have to remember the Watergate details because Mallon doesn’t go into many of them. But with Google and Wikipedia for refreshers you’re home free. Worth your time and money.
