More friends of Daniel Pearl

Today “is the birthday of Daniel Pearl, the Jewish-American reporter-musician who was kidnapped and murdered by Islamist Terrorists in Pakistan in early 2002.

In his memory every October since then has been Daniel Pearl World Music Days sponsored by the Daniel Pearl Foundation, run by Daniel’s parents, Judah and Ruth. This year there are more than 1400 events scheduled in more than 60 countries around the world.”

There were two events in Austin, both unfortunately past. One was Oct. 1 at the Green Mesquite and the other was Oct. 6 at Threadgill’s. You might consider patronizing those restaurants as a thank-you, though I do not recommend the BBQ at Green Mesquite. But they do have other good eats. Anything at Threadgill’s is worth your money.

The only listings in Texas on today’s anniversary of Daniel’s birth seem to be in Denton, northwest of Dallas, where the University of North Texas College of Music is dedicating all of its musical events for the month to him. Elsewhere, go to http://www.danielpearlmusicdays.org/events.php and search for yourself.
