Good ole Prince Harry

The British royals are a bit of a joke, for the most part, but not this one. Michael Yon has more. Shame on Drudge for exposing Prince Harry’s patrolling in Afghanistan, which inevitably raised the ante on his life. Here’s hoping the 23-year-old royal finds a way to get back into the fight.

Blood for oil

It’s such a pity that journalism, which claims such high motives, has so many practitioners who thrive on sensation, and have an innate inability to acknowledge complexity. Thus Drudge is headlining today in red: "Shock: Greenspan Claims Iraq War Really Was For Oil." What nonsense. Of course it was for oil. And for our national security, and to spread Democracy in a part of the world whose despots are helping breed the terrorism which led to 9/11, and yet exports the one commodity, oil, needed by every economy. Without which, at present, every one of them–including ours–would collapse and billions of people would suffer. How can we not fight for oil?

Disrupting the lovers’ embrace

I saw the picture of the embracing skeletons on Drudge, read the headline, and moved on to something else. Then I read Belmont Club’s take "Now and Forever" and got more interested. I had not thought of the Romeo and Juliet angle on this presumed 5,000- to 6,000-year-old couple. Nor of their contradiction of Marvell’s poem about how "The grave’s a fine and private place, But none, I think, do there embrace." But I agree with Wretchard’s commentor that it’s a shame the bones were disturbed, and now sit in plastic bags in a warehouse awaiting DNA analysis. So much for now and forever.
