The Golden Gate baloney

One of the great myths of this country is the Golden Gate Bridge. It’s generally phographed from an angle that makes it look like it’s longer than it really is, and disappearing into a thick fog. Really waaay out there. It’s only when you get up close to it, as this photo shows, and as Mr. B. discovered to his consternation on a recent trip to California, that it’s really not all that impressive. It’s rather stuffed into a small body of water called the Golden Gate. Which is a reminder of another thing. The bridge itself isn’t golden. It’s reddish orange.
