Plywood ducks instead of smeared poop

The GOP did it, too. But, unlike Barry’s minions, they didn’t try to enlist such NEA grantees as smeared-poop artists to promote their agenda. They went to Branson, MO, and enlisted the hillbillies:

"…whether your art is wind chimes or plywood ducks, all of you can leverage your talents to address the plight of the GOP community. While winning valuable federal prizes! For example, let’s say you’re playing the weekend buffet show at an Indian bingo casino. Why not slip in a positive plug for Halliburton, or a zinger against Nancy Pelosi? I’m sure [we] can find some NEA grant money to cover that as performance art. Another example — do we have any garden gnome-ists on the call?"

Indigenous, as opposed to "academic," art. Humor from the heartland. Iowahawk does it again.

Surviving a tornado

Tom Higdon, an old Army buddy in Newtonia, MO, finally checks in with our email group to say that his family survived the tornadoes that killed twenty-one people in Southwest Missouri and Oklahoma on the night of May 10:

"WE are okay for the most part. Lost a garage, but the house pulled through. Newtonia is a war zone for sure. No injuries, but unbelievable destruction all over….No phone service since last Saturday until today…The tornado destroyed about 15 homes in the other end of town and damaged all others. We were very lucky on this one. We lost about 15 trees and everything not tied down in the yard. Yard and field are a mess."

As always in these kinds of natural disasters, if you want to help, you should donate to the Red Cross (Missouri address here) or the Salvation Army nearest you.

The family that snipes together…

“Our friends laugh at us because we give each other weapons for gifts, and they think that’s a little odd,” said Karmen, a member of the 2175th Military Police Company, Hannibal, MO “But, people that are close to us know Jason and I couldn’t be better suited for one another.”

Like putting a long-stem rose in the barrel of a 12-gauge. Works for me.
