Even as the Arabs have sought to destroy evidence of the First Temple with a backhoe, the first artifacts of Solomon’s creation have been recovered–though not, sadly, in their proper archeological sequence. It’s like going through the trash of a particularly uncivilized family and finding discarded gems. It underlines the secular nature of the Israeli government that they would permit such destruction.     It underlines mostly that Olmert is afraid of rocking the boat toward Annapolis.
    It seems that the pressure on him is quite enormous.

    You could also say it began in 1967 with letting them keep control of the Temple Mount. I realize no Jew–nor most Christians for that matter– doubts the existence of the temples, but it’s sad to see the evidence trashed.
