You lie!

I got a kick out of South Carolina GOP Rep. Joe Wilson’s outburst during one of what AP delicately calls Barry’s "iffy" promises on health care reform. This was the Congress of yesteryear where decorum was most often observed in the breach. It’s hardly a modern phenom. Or, as Instapundit says: goose meet gander. It was, after all, the sort of thing that was good enough for the Democrats during Bush’s state-of-the-union address in 2005.

UPDATE: Wilson has taken in three quarters of a million in Internet campaign donations since his cry, showing that he has plenty of folks in agreement with him. I don’t think any pol should be allowed to take donations from anyone not an eligible voter in his district. Quaint idea, I know.

  1. Yeah, that story seems to make a lot of noise so far.

  2. Oh boy… sorry, but your comment system is playing up again. I thought it is stuck an clicked on “reload”. Two times, apparently. Apologies.

  3. As Mr. B. says, “No prob.” I deleted the other two. The whole system is giving me trouble this morning.
I expect we’ll be hearing charges of racism before long, but this is old stuff. A hundred sixty years ago the congress critters took after each other with canes. We’re not there yet.

  4. Now why would anybody think that was racist?

    Oh.
Of course, predicting that is like predicting that Obama will attack strawmen.
    It’s a sure thing.

  5. It’s their best excuse for any criticism of their slippery messiah, who is one of the biggest dunces ever to hold the office.
Far from improving race relations he is going to make them worse. A lot worse.

  6. I think he’s going to both make them better and worse.
Better: The charge of “racism” is just noise now for more and more people. When all criticism is deemed “racist”, it loses its punch. Especially considering people like O’Reilly and Beck and Limbaugh and more were predicting that would happen.
The charge of racism will soon be a sign you’re a crackpot, just like nazi.
Worse: The charge of racism will soon be a sign you’re the crackpot. Just like you can’t label real nazis as “nazi” anymore, you won’t be able to call a racist a “racist”.
Eh, it’s used wrongly a lot more than it’s used correctly, so that’s a good thing on average.
These days, more and more people are seeing that it really means, “You’re winning an argument with a leftist”, just like nazi.
