No-crash policy still in effect
My good Southwest Airlines (which was called the National Airline of Texas in the 1980s before it went national) maintained its sterling no-crash policy even after a horrific engine explosion at 32,500 over Western Pennsylvania.
“One person is dead after an engine exploded on a Southwest Airlines flight on Tuesday, sending a piece of shrapnel flying back into a window which caused the woman sitting next to it to be nearly sucked out of the aircraft.”
But she wasn’t and the pilots and crew got it down safely. Good show!

UPDATE: The pilot-captain Tammy Jo Shults is a former Navy fighter pilot who is being celebrated for her coolness. “Southwest 1380 has an engine fire,” she announced. “Descending.” Later she says “Actually no fire now but we are single engine.” Hear the entire talk between her and Air Traffic Control. More on her past here.

The Rainbow and The Rose
Three touching and tender love stories by master novelist Nevil Shute who died in 1960.
Wrapped around the intricacies of flying, from the old cloth-covered sport and fighter biplanes to aluminum-sided piston-engine transports. And dreams of all of it that linger in the mind and heart. Worth your time and money.
Rule 5: Brenna Spencer
Not a plus-size model by any stretch, but I just like girls with guns and women for Trump as well. And, yes, super tight jeans.

Comey’s bitchy book not worth the read
Certainly it’s not worth the $14.99 Amazon is asking for the Kindle version. But Fox’s Chris Wallace, a relatively objective journalism voice, says there’s nothing new in it except the slurs on Trump and his wife.
“One could argue that by getting into the kind of political food fight that James Comey has done more damage to his own reputation than he has to President Trump’s.”
Easily. Now let’s prosecute him, why don’t we, for stealing federal documents and handing them over to the NYTimes. We could all use a little equal justice.

Legalizing weed? Trump is for it
“On the first great-weather day of Spring 2018, President Donald Trump has committed to withdrawing federal objections to the legalization of marijuana, reports Tom Angell of Marijuana Moment.”
It was a great weather day here, too, though a cold front and thunderboomers marred it somewhat. But this is startling news, after AG Sessions’ gungho drug war rhetoric. Maybe he really is on the outs and may resign over this.
“This is huge, as it would unambiguously allow states to pursue legalization without worrying about a federal crackdown such as the one proposed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the start of this year. ”
Via Nick Gillespie at Reason
UPDATE: Ilya Somin of the Volokh Conspiracy doesn’t trust Trump or the House GOP on this.
MORE: Not to be outdone by Trump, who wants to allow individual states to pursue legalization, the Dims are going for across-the-board federal decriminalization. Wonder how that would apply to states like Texas where it still is illegal.
