Bye, bye Weekly Standard

“I get it that a lot of our readers didn’t like the Standard for its resolute anti-Trump position. They would have been better served had they emulated the Wall Street Journal editorial page, which I think has found the sweet spot of praising and defending Trump when he deserves it, and criticizing him for his manifest defects—sometimes in the same editorial or op-ed column.”

I ignored the anti-Trumpism in favor of the book reviews and features and I’ll miss the magazine.

The Pullman Roomette

Not unlike Amtrak’s Superliner bedroom. Which Barbara Ellen and I have booked for our week-long trip to Colorado in February. Except the bedroom has a shower. Amtrak’s roomette is smaller and has no toilet or shower.

Anti-Open Borders attacked by Antifa

There’s a reason the Dims rarely criticize Antifa. Its masked, club-wielding wildlings fight for open borders and socialism. Time for a bloody answer?

Gold trove at Caesarea

From the time of the Crusader conquest of the city and the massacre of its inhabitants, someone hid the gold but never retrieved it.

“… as the levant’s primary port, Caesarea has been a critical link in trade routes since it was constructed by Herod the Great. Excepting Acco, Israel’s coast had little by way of natural ports. Herod’s ambitious and impressive feat in constructing an artificial port at Caesarea using under-water cement changed the nature of coastal trade in Israel.”

Train nostalgia

Train nostalgia from O’Toole. The Great Northern’s Empire Builder‘s lounge and observation car:

“In addition to beverages, cigars, and cigarettes, the menu offers a few toiletries such as a comb or toothpaste. It also has valet-service prices for pressing clothes: $1 for a two-piece suit; $1.25 for a three-piece; etc. (multiply by 10 to approximate today’s dollars)…”

Cigars and cigarettes are verboten today on Government (Amtrak) Railroad.

UPDATE:  You had to wear a suit, notice, and you had to have the coin. Passenger trains were for the upperclass, even the elite. Lower classes couldn’t afford the fare of a long-distance train like the Empire Builder. A first class sleeper, a private room, cost hundreds of dollars a day and night.

The lying Mediacrats want to censor us

The NYSlimes editorial board is demanding that the feds and corporate America ally to censor conservative social media on the Internet.

Poor gatekeepers, they’ve lost control of the narrative.

“It’s truly remarkable how the same controlled media organizations which whine incessantly about President Trump’s supposed attacks on the free press are the biggest lobbyists for corporate and government censorship attacking the true free press which exists on the internet.”

Ann Coulter remarks: “Consider how strong liberals consider their arguments. They’ve got all of the mainstream media, one hundred percent — ABC, NBC, CBS, all the cable, the major newspapers, the major news magazines, they’ve got Yahoo, AOL. They have the Swamp, they’ve got Hollywood, they have Silicon Valley. And now they’re down to the last corners of the internet. Oh no! Conservatives can speak to one another, we must shut it off!”

UPDATE:  The Nazis and other Jew haters are a pain but they’re in the minority even on Gab and can be “muted” to not have to engage them. The NYSlimes wants them vanished altogether as “hate speech,” stuffed back into the desktop publishing world, but who’s to say what’s hate. Twitter and Facebook have banned the politically incorrect and conservative along with the true haters. Gab says information must be free and I agree.
