Kindle books at $1

Well, 99 cents, actually, but it’s easier to write a $ sign and a 1. The point is that $1 books are taking over ebook sales at Amazon:

“A few years ago there were just two $1 items in the [Amazon] Top 100. Today, there are 34. The top 4 spots are at $1. [Seven] out of the Top 10 are at $1.

“The signs couldn’t be clearer. Customers want the [publishing] efficiency [of ebooks] to be shared with them – and they’re richly rewarding authors and developers who are eliminating their fear and greed and going with a customer friendly and profit friendly $1.”

Works for me, though I’ll still pay $10 for an ebook if I really want it, but I’m trying to break myself of the habit. The $1 books just make more sense, especially for unknown authors.

The low price helps entice readers to take a chance on someone they never heard of, and many of those unknowns, ahem, write good stuff. That’s why I lowered Knoxville 1863 and Leaving the Alamo to 99 cents each.

Chip in your gun?

Massachusetts legislators are considering putting GPS location chips in guns sold in the state, presumably to track their whereabouts.

Instapundit suggests putting the chips in the politicians, instead, since more of them have been shown to be criminals than there have been guns used in crimes.

All a bit silly, of course, and also useless. All states already are quite capable of tracking the whereabouts of the populace via the cellphones most of them carry with them every day.

Why I can wait for Mar. 24

Although I really am looking forward to flying to Israel on that date….

The real Israel (behind the usual headlines)

Time for a little Jerusalem rock. (Getting primed for my trip there in twelve days.) With a sacred lyric, but still tight, guitar rock.

Knoxville 1863 now 99 cent eBook

Not that I expect to equal this result any time soon, because crime novels have always sold better than Civil War ones.

But I’ve been watching the debate over how unknown, indie authors can best amass readership without extensive (and expensive) marketing and I’ve become convinced that pricing one’s eBook at 99 cents is an excellent start.

Also, thanks to Al Past of Beeville, Texas, for including my professionally-edited, independently-published Knoxville 1863 in this new posting of his.

Grant won, but Stonewall got the Coke ad

Robert Moore, at Cenantua’s Blog has it: “The victor gets to write the history…” True, but in the case of the Civil War, he didn’t get the product endorsements or the residuals. Poor Uncle Billy Sherman. Jesus wept.

The Joooos did it! (Again)

“I am going to reveal a secret,” said the president of Yemen. “There is an operations room in Tel Aviv with the aim of destabilizing the Arab world. The operations room is in Tel Aviv and run by the White House.”

Those crafty Elders of Zion. Absolutely tireless. And you know they can lead Obamalot around by the nose. Heck, anyone can do that.
