Israel is an American value

I think that’s absolutely true and it explains why Obamalot’s attempt to sandbag Bibi before he arrived to speak to Congress blew up in their face. Not only did they spend the next few days backing and filling to explain what their leader really meant, the Congress, itself, rebuked them with all those standing ovations for Bibi, who likewise eviscerated Obamalot.

Says Walter Russell Mead: “Obama’s political isolation on this issue, and the haste with which liberal Democrats like Nancy Pelosi left the embattled President to take the heat alone, testify to the pervasive sense in American politics that Israel is an American value.  Said the Minority Leader to the Prime Minister: ‘I think it’s clear that both sides of the Capitol believe you advance the cause of peace.’”

Next up, from the so-called Palestinian Arabs, a new intifada. To be answered, undoubtedly, with air strikes and artillery.

UPDATE: New CAMERA Poll finds “The overwhelming majority of American Jews are cognizant of threats to Israel, protective of the country, cautious about risks and strongly opposed to such measures as boycotts, including boycotts of settlements.”

There’s still hope for the Arab Spring

“For decades we watched protesters in the Middle East burn the flags of America, the UK and Israel, as these countries were believed to represent the ‘enemies of the people.’ For the first time, we see protesters burn the flags of Iran, Russia and Hezbollah for a change! Are we witnessing a moment of redefining the ‘enemies of the people’ in the Middle East?”

Obama: Our anti-Israel president

Bret Stephens is a former editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post. But he’s still a sharp enough journalist to recognize mendacity when he hears it in between all the usual bromides.

“…the essence of his proposal is that Israel should cede territory, put itself into a weaker position, and then hope for the best…,” Stephens writes in the Wall Street Journal.

“What, then, would a pro-Israel president do? He would tell Palestinians that there is no right of return. He would make the reform of the Arab mindset toward Israel the centerpiece of his peace efforts. He would outline hard and specific consequences should Hamas join the government.

“Such a vision could lay the groundwork for peace. What Mr. Obama offered is a formula for war….”

A war that we will likely finance with the millions of dollars in welfare “aid” we still dole out to the terror-loving Palestinians every year.

AND:  Jerusalem specifically asked Obama before his speech not to adopt the Palestinian position of the “1967 lines” (which actually refers to the 1949 armistice lines) but they got a rebuke when our anti-Israel president did it anyway.

MORE:  There really should be no surprise here, considering Barry’s background, including his anti-Jewish pastor of twenty-something years.

The Jewish Nakba

The one the Arabs don’t like to talk about, because THEY created it.

Glenn Beck (hearts) Israel

I admit I rarely listen to the man. Mainly because I rarely watch/listen to anything on television or radio. Far as I’m concerned, they are the moldy past and the Internet is the future that’s so bright you gotta squint.

But I never understood the non-Lefty folks who so intensely dislike Beck. Who have helped make him “controversial” as the journos like to say. Fact that he loves Israel is more than good enough for me. Takes guts to do that openly these days, and Beck does it all the time.

“…many in the history of man have had the opportunity to stand with the Jewish people,” he says. “Time and time again they have had the opportunity, and they have failed. I choose to stand and be counted.”

Bibi to Obamalot: Return to 1845 borders

“Netanyahu spoke of the injustice and hardship Mexicans have endured since American forces annexed Texas in 1845.

“‘Tens of thousands of ordinary Mexicans were driven out of their homes – the only homes they had known for centuries – and forced to live in poverty and squalor south of the border imposed by American aggression,’ Netanyahu said. ‘The Israeli and Mexican people agree on this: This festering wound will never heal until America takes bold steps to return to the internationally accepted lines of 1845.'”

Nice joke. Hits the spot. I certainly wouldn’t miss California.

Those 1967 lines

I’m not sure what to make of the speech. As usual for one of his opuses, it was both too precise and too general. And, I’d be willing to bet money on this, it will have little affect beyond the anger it has generated among the pro-Israel folks. Not to mention Hamas.

He can’t impose his terms on the parties, even if the Congress would let him which it probably won’t. The Republicans because they disagree with him and the Democrats because they want all that liberal Jewish cash to keep flowing their way. Which it won’t if the donors fear Israel is endangered. Which it could be under the new policy terms of the speech.

Which is certainly just as well for the Israelis and those like me who wish them well. It continues to amaze me that otherwise rational politicians continue to pretend that the Palis, perpetually lying and intolerant phonies that they are, are actual “partners for peace” for anyone, let alone Israel. Even their name is a phony, a name they never called themselves before Israel was reborn. It’s the name the Roman Emperor Hadrian imposed on Judea many moons ago as an insult to the Jews who hated him for building statues of Jupiter on the Temple Mount. Hadrian renamed Judea Palestinia.

Fortunately, the Palis also shot themselves in the foot (as usual) when they decided not long ago to have a unity government of Hamas and the PA. And recently underscored their love of terrorists. The speech made it clear several times that without them agreeing on Israel’s right to exist and then demilitarizing (Give up their AKs? Give up their stone throwing? Fat chance) none of this 1967 lines business will pertain.

Then there’s the problem of Jerusalem. The “emotional” problem the speech called it. Not to mention the capital of Israel, home of the Knesset, etc. Give it up? Give up the Kotel for “peace” with the untrustworthy PA and Hamas? Don’t hold your breath.

And, finally and maybe foremost, there’s the little matter of the Jordan Valley.  Israel will never give it up, if only for the sake of the boys who died securing it. But there’s more. They will not put themselves back in the militarily-vulnerable position of 1949 no matter what any American  president demands. They aren’t insane.

UPDATE:  The speech is already being backpedaled by the speaker. No surprise. The wonder is that he has any chance at reelection at all. The advantage of being a tan man, apparently. Sure ain’t for brilliance.
