Fake News & Fusion GPS

CNN, or Certainly Not News, has close ties to the authors of the dodgy dossier, according to the Daily Caller. But Fake News is busy hiding the fact.

“CNN’s reporting on the dossier has similarly muddied the waters with incorrect information on multiple other occasions.”

Gee, what a surprise.

Why are all the loudmouths African-American?

My headline , at least, makes better sense than what the Newsweak headline actually says. But, hey, that’s just ol’ Newsweak trying to get attention—clicks, you know, clicks! Since so few (or none) turn the pages anymore. My headline, now, that’s skating on thin ice.

Ken Burns’ Vietnam: The Antiwar Version

“In his ten years working on the documentary Burns somehow never got around to interviewing a vet like Minneapolis attorney Tim Kelly, who speaks for the many expressing simple pride in their service.”

A good critique with links to others at Power Line, such as scholar Mark Moyer’s dismissal of Burns’ dishonest poop.

I didn’t watch any of it and won’t now for sure.

Targets of opportunity

I’ve held back in commenting on the Las Vegas massacre until I’d had some time to think it over. Plainly the shooter, a gun collector, wasn’t angry at the people he killed and wounded. Like them, he was very likely a conservative. Like them, he probably even liked country music.

No, they were just targets of opportunity. A huge gathering beneath his sniper’s nest in the hotel, easy pickins for a deranged maniac. You’d have to be mentally ill to want to kill and wound hundreds of innocent people you didn’t even know. Unless your motive was political, religious or social. None of which seem to apply here.

The country really is sick in many ways. The news media/entertainment industries, particularly, stoke it with their daily fixations on violence. The crazy politicos who immediately talk of seizing guns from the law-abiding as a solution to mental illness. The 59 dead (so far) just about equal the shooting dead in Chicago in one month, a place where guns are strictly regulated for the law-abiding. Criminals can get anything, including guns.

No, mental illness seems to be the issue here, but no politico and few public figures are talking about it. Even President Trump, a non-politician if there ever was one, fell back on Judaeo-Christian, debatable, “pure evil” as an explanation.

UPDATE:  J.D. has a sensible explanation for Paddock’s multiple rifles I haven’t seen elsewhere: “Full auto and more than about twenty rounds would definitely lead to overheating and jamming of these sorts of weapons…A rifle, being more tightly bored relative to the projectile(s) going down it, is significantly more susceptible to heat, and distortion, and eventual rupture. That’s probably why this Vegas dipshit supplied himself with multiple weapons, planning for that eventuality.”

Associated Press, loyal servant

Of the Democrat Party, of course.

“The Associated Press is a loyal servant of the Democratic Party and its liberal components. If you doubt that assertion, consider today’s AP article on the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court term by reporter Mark Sherman.”

All liberal comment. Much of it anti-Trump. Not a conservative or even a moderate in the bunch. AP really has trouble with objectivity.

“The Associated Press plays this game every day, in pretty much all of its coverage. Frame issues the way the Democratic Party wants them framed, then turn to liberal ‘experts’ for comment. Are reporters like Mark Sherman fooling anyone? No, which is why trust in the media is in the toilet…”

A good old fashioned fisking by retired lawyer John Hinderaker.

CJR calls Trump a racist

“A year ago, big media organizations like the New York Times faced facts and called Trump a liar on the front page. It’s time to use the word racist, too,” Columbia Journalism Review editor and publisher Kyle Pope wrote.

I never knew you, Kyle, but I knew your wife. I hope she’s properly embarrassed.

Under Obama, Watergate would get a pass

“Richard Nixon was accused of spying on the DNC, but Nixon never ordered any such spying. In fact, he didn’t know anything about it. He was accused of using the IRS against his political opponents, but he never did. We know for a fact that Obama did both of these things, used the IRS against political opponents and probably more.

“There’s no outrage in the media on this. They think it’s great that Manafort’s lock was picked. The New York Times reports this as though it’s something that happens every day. Yep, the FBI showed up, they picked the lock of Manafort’s front door in Virginia and walked in and woke him up along with his family and then started demanding things and taking things….”

The American Gestapo at work. Without a peep from Congress or the liberal media.
