Here comes the snow

It’s official. The weather service has us down for sleet/snow Wednesday through Thursday night with nightly lows overnight tonight through Friday in the low 30s. The odds of it sticking, much less accumulating, are thankfully low. Nevertheless, I’m glad to see that Sol is pumping out spots again. I don’t think I would like another winter like the last two.

UPDATE:  Snow and sleet, briefly removed from the forecast yesterday, is back for tonight (Feb. 10) and tomorrow. Still no accumulation expected.

Westlake’s Drew Brees

Of course, he’s New Orleans’ Drew Brees now. But there was a time, when he was the star QB of the Westlake High School Chaparrals on the western edge of Austin. And few here have forgotten.

Up she rises

The Brazos, that is, according to JDAllen and Bob Dunn, here and here. They ought to know, the river being in their backyards, more or less. I need to drive down off the mountain and see if Shoal Creek is rushing white-water yet.

She gets that way after all the rain we’ve been having. “Like this weather?” the fish man asked me the other day at the H-E-B. Does anybody?, I replied. He said no more. Actually, all this rain will have a good result: the Bluebonnets and other wildflowers should be really good in a few more weeks.

Buy Israel

It’s easy to assume that Austin’s predominant leftist politics preclude things beyond their talking points. Not so when it comes to what the JCAA’s CEO Jay Rubin calls the “buycot” answer to anti-Israel boycotts, and calls for divestment and sanctions:

“Whole Foods has begun carrying delicious Jaffa clementines direct from Israel…  You can support Israel in Austin by buying a crate, encouraging your friends to buy crates and  thanking Whole Foods produce managers for carrying them.

“Of course, H-E-B is no slouch as far as Israeli food products are concerned. Our recent visitors from the Partnership with the Western Galilee were astounded by the selection of Israeli products available at the H-E-B Kosher Store.”

Whole Foods is too pricey and too far away for me, but the H-E-B with the Kosher Store is just a few blocks away. I’m there or in the vicinity about every day.
